Aside from the excitement brought by watching beautiful Christmas Lights displayed in city squares and hung on the roofs of many houses, the Christmas season is filled with many traditions and beliefs that add up to the merriment.
For two millenniums, people have been observing and following different traditions associated with the celebration of Christmas. The holiday music, known as Christmas carols are sung by many and played in many business establishments and residential properties. Choirs singing Christmas carols also perform in public places and sidewalks. Gift giving is also one of Christmas traditions. Many shoppers swarm in stores and malls to buy things they can give as gifts to their friends and loved ones especially to children. Gifts are often placed under Christmas trees decorated with lights, ribbons and other decors. The presents are often opened at Christmas Eve. Many families hold their family reunion during this season as the children are not attending school due to the Christmas break and most adults don’t have to go to work. Kissing under the mistletoe is also one of the famous traditions during Christmas.
Attending church is also one of the traditions in celebrating Christmas. This is due to the fact that Christmas is a sacred religious holiday celebrated in many parts of the world to celebrate the birth of the Christians religious leader, Jesus of Nazareth.
